Donegal Insurance
Donegal Insurance Group’s story began in Marietta, Pennsylvania, where a group of farmers came together to provide mutual protection for their property and farms. In 1889, Donegal and Conoy Mutual Fire Insurance Company issued their first insurance policy to a local farmer for dwelling coverage. By 1949, the company had changed its name to Donegal Mutual Insurance Company, and in the 1950s it began offering automobile and homeowners insurance. In 1986, Donegal Mutual formed a holding company, Donegal Group Inc., and began offering common stock on the NASDAQ exchange. Over the following decades, the company grew steadily through a series of acquisitions, expanding its reach into the Midwest, New England, and Southern states.
